Volunteer Probationary Period Policy

The Douglas County Cancer Services (DCCS) probationary period is intended to supply new volunteers with the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to achieve a goal of a satisfactory level of performance. It also supplies them with the ability to determine whether the new position meets all their expectations. DCCS will use this period to evaluate the volunteer's capabilities, work ethics, and overall job performance. DCCS or the volunteer can end the position relationship at any time during or after the probationary period with or without cause or advance notice.

The first 90 days after the new volunteer's start date will be on a probationary basis. If there are any significant volunteer absences, the probationary period will be extended by the length of the absence. If DCCS determines the probationary period doesn't allow ample time to evaluate the volunteer's performance, the probationary period may be extended for a specified period.

The DCCS Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with volunteers on all aspects of their training understanding and responsibilities during this period. DCCS encourages all new or returning volunteers to get to know their fellow co-volunteers and board members quickly as this tends to help them succeed with DCCS. DCCS also expects the volunteer to become familiar with other relevant information about DCCS, the processes, rules, and regulations.
